Terms of Use
Mented — version 1, 18 September 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Mented. They are written to be read, not to be impressive. By using the app you accept them, and the app asks you to do so before you can post anything.
What Mented is
Mented is a study app for candidates preparing for the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination. It tracks the syllabus, times your study, schedules revision, and lets you book short one-to-one sessions with mentors who have sat the examination themselves.
Mented is not affiliated with the UPSC, with any government body, or with any coaching institute. Nothing here is an official source for the syllabus, the examination calendar or its rules — check the UPSC's own notifications for those.
Who may use it
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You need a working email address, which you must verify.
- One account per person. Accounts are not transferable.
Your account
Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what is done from your account. The name and details you give must be your own and accurate — a mentor decides how to help you partly from what you tell them, and a student chooses a mentor partly from what the mentor claims.
You can delete your account yourself at any time, immediately, from Profile → Delete my account. What is deleted and what is kept is set out on Delete your account.
What you post
You keep ownership of what you write and upload. You give us permission to store it and to show it where the app is designed to show it — your messages to the mentor in that session, your review on that mentor's public profile, your display name on the leaderboard if you turn that on.
You are responsible for what you post, and it must follow the Content Policy. We may remove content and restrict or remove accounts under that policy. Some things you post are visible to other people and cannot be recalled from them — a review is public, and a message has been read.
Sessions with mentors
How sessions work, stated plainly because most of it is a surprise otherwise:
- A session runs for 20 minutes. Either party may ask to finish early; the other has to agree.
- The chat opens five minutes before the start and closes two minutes after the end. It stays readable afterwards but nothing further can be sent.
- Files attached to a session are deleted seven days afterwards. If a mentor returns an evaluated answer sheet, download it within that week.
- Progress you choose to share with a mentor is visible to them from the booking until fifteen minutes after the session, and is then deleted.
- Both parties report what happened afterwards. If the two reports disagree, the session is flagged for us to look at.
Mentors are individuals, not employees of Mented. We review their applications and the documents they submit, and we remove those who break the rules — but the guidance they give is theirs. Mented does not guarantee any examination result, rank or outcome, and no mentor is authorised to promise one on our behalf.
Sessions must stay on Mented. Moving to a personal number or another app removes the record, the rating and any route to report what happens, which is why it is prohibited rather than discouraged.
If you apply to be a mentor
Everything you claim about your attempts, results and experience must be true, and we may ask for documents to support it. Approval can be withdrawn at any time, and doing so ends your access to student progress and to the handover notes mentors write. Before deleting your account, cancel any sessions still to come — a student left holding a session with no mentor cannot cancel it themselves.
Payment
Mented is free, and no session on it is paid for. There are no in-app purchases and we do not take payment details. Some features unlock after a free trial by inviting other aspirants rather than by paying.
If paid sessions are introduced later, the price and the terms around refunds will be shown before anything is charged, and these terms will be updated first.
Using the app properly
Do not try to break, overload or work around the app; do not attempt to read other users' data; do not automate accounts, reviews or referrals; do not use Mented to advertise anything. Referrals must be real people who signed up themselves.
Availability
We will keep Mented running as well as we can, but it is provided as it is. Data is stored in a single region in India, so an outage there is an outage for the app. We may change features, and we may suspend the service. Your own study data can be deleted by you at any time; keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
Where you stand
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under Indian law that cannot be limited by agreement, including under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Subject to that: Mented is not liable for an examination outcome, for advice a mentor gave, for content another user posted, or for loss of data you had no other copy of.
Ending this agreement
You may stop using Mented and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms or the Content Policy, and we will say why unless doing so would put someone at risk.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
Changes to these terms
If we change them materially we will update this page, change the version at the top, and ask you to accept again in the app. The version you accepted is recorded against your account.
